International visitors are reminded that they should check on whether they require a visa to enter Australia. The Department of Immigration website is the place to do this. Select your country at the top RHS of the screen for relevant information.
Please note that you should apply for your visa at least 6–8 weeks before your intended date of travel to Australia (or two weeks for online applications) as visa processing times may vary.
Letters of Invitation
Invitation letters will be issued after delegates have registered and paid for the Conference. The invitation letter will include conference title, dates and location, and it will state if you are an author, speaker, committee member or attendee.
Applications for Visas will need to be accompanied by a copy of your delegate registration confirmation and an invoice showing full payment has been made. If a Visa application is refused, the Conference registration fee will be refunded.
If you require a letter of invitation to apply for a Visa for entry into Australia, please contact the Conference Secretariat . Please provide in your e-mail:
- your full name as it appears on your passport
- your affiliation
- your conference registration confirmation number
- your work address
- your fax number
- your nationality
- your date of birth
- your passport number
- the required delivery method for invitation letter (e-mail, fax)
Please indicate in your request if you require your invitation to be sent to you by e-mail or fax.
No invitation letter will be issued until your registration has been completed, paid in full and confirmed.
Airport transfers: Melbourne Tullamarine airport has international and domestic terminals located next to each other. There is a dedicated airport bus that stops at all terminals, running nonstop between the airport and Southern Cross station (in the CBD). It is the most efficient and reasonably priced option for airport transfers, unless you are in a group. Skybus tickets can be purchased from a booth at the airport, or in advance, online. Skybus runs hotel shuttles from Southern Cross station, there is a free #35 circuit tourist tram from the end of the street after 10am (get a map here), or there are always plenty of taxis. A taxi from Melbourne airport to the CBD costs upwards of $45. The trip takes around half an hour in light traffic.

The two days of the Conference are being held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). This is located at Federation Square, which is on the corner of Flinders St and St Kilda Rd (or at the end of Swanston St). It is marked on a google map here.
We’ve provided a list of accommodation options, most of which are within walking distance of ACMI. If you stay further afield, public transport is very close by. Flinders St Railway Station is directly opposite ACMI, just across St Kilda Rd. And Melbourne’s tram network is extensive. Ticketing for public transport is now done exclusively via electronic ‘Myki’ cards. These can be purchased at a range of outlets.

The City of Melbourne describes Melbourne’s winter as “cool to brisk”. Average winter maximum temperature is 14C (57F) and average minimum is 7C (45F). Rain is common in southern Australia during the winter months.
